Books keep piling around me. It’s perfect moment to shared some of my recent book hauls.
“The Quantum Thief” by Hannu Rajaniemi
The first novel in a “Jean le Flambeur” trilogy from a Finnish author. The book is promised to be sci-fi cyberpunk fiction. I’m not a big sci-fi fan, I barely read anything in that genre but the description caught my interest: “Jean is condemned to play endless variations of a game-theoretic riddle in the vast virtual jail against countless copies of himself.”
“The Legacy” by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir
Another beginning of a series. This time, it’s a mystery crime thriller.
“The only person who might have the answers to a baffling murder case is the victim’s seven-year-old daughter, found hiding in the room where her mother died. And she’s not talking.” I like mysteries. I don’t know how bloody it’d be, but it would be curious to experience something other than Agatha Christie’s novels.
“Rogue Male” by Geoffrey Household
Another thriller that is also marked as “Classics” on Goodreads. It was published in 1939. I expect it to have a vibe of old black-and-white movies. We watched quite a few of them recently, the book should be a nice addition.
“The Girl on the Fridge” by Etgar Keret
A hodgepodge of 46 short stories by an Israeli writer. Some time ago I saw a review for his other book “The Seven Good Years” that I still can’t find in second hand version, but this one came my way.
“Mood Indigo” by Boris Vian (“Froth on the Daydream” initial title)
The French author that is hard to find second hand and in English (at least in Berlin). Whenever I see his book I buy it. This book is one of his well-known works that also was turned into a movie.
“The Prince of the Skies” by Antonio Iturbe
Historical fiction novel based on the life of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Story of friendship and exploration. That’s all I need to know.
“Crossroads” by Jonathan Franzen
Latest novel from the author of “The Corrections” and several other novels, he is a modern American novelist. A mix of historical novel with a family saga centred around Hildebrandt family. Religious themes, historical setting and a marriage that is falling apart.
“Refresh, refresh” by Benjamin Percy
One more book of short stories, a bold, fiery, and unforgettable collection that deals with vital issues of our time.
