What a night it was! Lightning flashed one after another for hours, and after each lightning, thunder rumbled. I am usually not easily awakened by noise, but this time even I got woken up by how loud it was.
Now I have two things to solve. First one is how to survive the day after less than 6 hours of sleep? And the second one is how to finish 220 pages in less than 3 days, when there is a full time job to do? Oh well, let’s not waste more time, back to the book…
Actually, maybe I’ll have a chance to listen at x1,5 speed and follow the text for an hour, that would speed things up. I wouldn’t do it for a new book, but my goal is to refresh details before the book club, that should do the trick.
P.S.: Of course I couldn’t find an hour for listening, what a surprise! But a few other things that were hanging over my head got done, which is good.
“Tender is the Flesh” by Agustina Bazterrica
I forgot to download Tokarczuk’s audiobook, so when I arrived at the gym with an unstable WiFi it was too late to fix anything. Not to lose the time completely, I continued listening to “Tender is the Flesh”.
What a tough and controversial subject to read about! Though that’s only the first impression and I slowly normalised the idea that this might be our possible future.
“Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead” by Olga Tokarczuk
Only a few pages progress this one today. More information about Janina, her style of life and how she spends her day: watching weather programs on TV and looking after the houses of her neighbours that don’t live in the village during winter times.
It’s amusing to observe Janina’s philosophy about different things, especially relationships between Mankind and Nature (including Animals). She’s telling it to us from the perspective of her experience, making conclusions, connecting ideas. I’m loving it!
She gives a feeling of a logical, reasonable person, because of that she reminded me of Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple.
